Just creating a piece of content or presentation and submitting it to all the irrelevant websites like directories and bookmarks didn’t ever made sense to me. Later on, I discovered that Google also hates this pathetic way of doing the linking.

2. Spammy Blogging

Micro blogging was introduced for sharing knowledge and information with internet users. But SEO practitioners used it for creating small blogs and running an entire blog link network. This is ethically wrong, but this was also helping a little to their SEO program until Google banned these networks.

3. Keyword Oriented Content

After all the content related updates in Google algorithm and AI implementation, Google has become so smart that it’s not only dependent on matching synonyms, but it also understands the topic of a content by applying different parameters. So I believe, putting keyword many times or writing a content around a specific keyword will not help anymore.

4. Fake Press Releases

For the sake of backlink, many SEO practitioners created fake PRs or PRs without news. But if the content is not talking any news, how can you submit it to any news network? Without giving a second thought SEOs had a tendency to submit such PRs to PR networks.

We are aware of many link exchange methods that have been in practice for quite a long time. Every link built unnaturally for the purpose of ranking is Dangerous for your SEO program.

What does Poor content exactly mean? When you write something about a specific keyword and you use that keyword multiple times to maintain the keyword density, make silly mistakes and do not justify the length of the content etc. all constitute a poor piece of content. Okay, I know this sounds weird these days, but people from other parts of the globe still believe that a tool can create content and bring backlinks for you. There are incidences wherein clients ask, “Don’t you have a tool that can make postings in seconds?”. I would advice professionals to handle such clients very carefully and educate them about the consequences.

8. Inactive Social Media

Many SEO professionals are still not able to understand that how social media can help their ranking. According to old school techniques, only a do-follow link from authoritative website can help you rank. But we need to learn the rank signals which come from different sources like Social Media. So Ignoring social media would definitely not be a good idea.

9. Blind tactics

We always apply different tactics to rank specific websites according to its current position, industry and competition. But when you start using any tactic blindly without considering any consequences or without any strategic plan, you might be at high risk of getting penalized. Make sure you consider all impacts of any tactic before start using it.

10. Ignoring User Behavior

I believe that marketing plans should be prepared considering user’s interest. If you start considering user’s interest as the important factor of your SEO program, then your strategy is definitely going to work, because Google also works on this ethic.
